Health System Strategic Growth Plans

When Sutter Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems, wanted to build market share as it evolved its delivery network of 20+ hospitals and as many aligned and affiliated medical groups, they turned to us to help re-look at their growth strategy from a customer-driven perspective. We produced their strategic marketing plan and developed a four-pronged set of initiatives custom-designed for four key audiences: physicians, patients, payers, and employers.

Hospital Strategic Plans

In 2012, Allenmore Hospital was a 130- bed community hospital, surgery center, and outpatient campus that housed 100 physicians and comprehensive outpatient services with very high marks from physicians, patients, and employees. But its ADC was low, its much larger partner hospital was located only three miles away (providing similar services), and its health system owner was asking “what should the Allenmore Hospital become” given the push for lower costs and higher value in healthcare? We were hired as an integrator and developed their strategic plan, working with hospital and health system physicians and administrators to figure out questions like what services should be at the Allenmore Hospital vs. at the other hospitals in the system.

Health System Hospital Integration

In 2006, Good Samaritan Hospital joined forces with MultiCare Health System, becoming the 4th hospital in the health system’s growing delivery network. Our team was charged with the task of leading a comprehensive program and service integration effort, coordinating work on behalf of the senior executives from both organizations. Eighteen months later, this process resulted in successful reconfiguration of entity Boards and targeted clinical, administrative, and support service areas, contributing to organizational efficiencies and ongoing cost savings.

Medical Group Business Plans

Cedars-Sinai Medical Group is world-renowned for its Beverly Hills address, and regarded in healthcare for its excellent physicians and first-rate medical operations. Like most successful people and organizations, it strives for continual year-after-year improvement and business growth. Strategy Advantage has been privileged to be part of this effort, supporting development of the group’s Cardiology, OB/ GYN, Urgent Care Center, Hematology-Oncology, and other business planning, 7 years running.

Behavioral Health Strategic Plans

In 2010, Strategy Advantage was asked by two separate hospitals to assist in the development of their Behavioral Health Services strategic plans. Adding subject matter experts to our team who knew a lot about behavioral health services, we immersed ourselves in to the integrated medical/ behavioral health world and developed plans for Summa Health System in Ohio and St. Joseph Health System’s Mission Hospital in California.

Specialty Services Business and Program Development Plans

For years, many hospitals have worked to build competitive advantage, improve volume and strategic position, align and integrate services with physicians/ other clinicians, and evolve their different specialty business lines. We have a history of developing many of these business and program development plans, including: OB/ Women’s and Cancer Services Strategic Plans for Sutter Mills Peninsula Health Services (California), Cardiology Services Strategic Business Plan for Olympic Medical Center (Washington), Oncology Services Community Needs Assessment for North Mississippi Medical Center (Mississippi), Boone Fetter Clinic Autism Spectrum Disorders Center plan for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (California), and Cardiovascular, Spine Center, and OB/ Neonatal Service Plans for Community Health Network (Indiana).
